About

I love to feed people. That’s something my mother has always said, and as I’ve gotten older and starting cooking more and more for others, it’s something I believe in, too. Food not only nourishes us but it connects us. I love sharing food with family and friends, from a quick lunch to a loud, boisterous dinner party. On this blog you’ll see my meanderings in the kitchen, from exploration of an ingredient, to recipes I’ve found helpful, to ponderings about food, cooking and beyond. Hope you enjoy!

And by the way, I studied abroad in Valencia, Spain. When Spaniards would pronounce my name as it looks, it would sound a lot like ‘aguacate,’ the word for avocado. Aguacate became my nickname, and hence the name for this food blog. I know technically ‘aguacate’ in Spanish is masculine so it should be “el aguacate.” I, however, am feminine so I changed it to “la.”

In my real life, I’m the PR/Social Media Manager for Just A Pinch Recipes, a recipe and coupon social network. Just A Pinch focuses on real food from real home cooks, so you’ll definitely see some recipes discussed, shared and cooked on the blog. Know that the opinions here are my own, and if I talk about something from Just A Pinch it’s because I believe in it!
